Sachie and Jeff were married at Allied Arts Guild in Menlo Park on a spectacular August day. They were all about small and intimate – no bridal party, no head table, lots of family and close friends, and you could feel that each and every person there really cared deeply for this couple and were honored to witness their union.
Everything this couple wanted to do was about FUN. No stuffiness about them, that’s for sure! I realized very quickly that my biggest challenge of the day would be communicating with Sachie’s relatives, who only spoke Japanese (not a language I know anything about!). But I realized where Sachie got her fun-loving relaxed nature from – her father. Although he and I couldn’t communicate via traditional words, through smiles, hand gestures and just bringing him a coffee, we were able to share some laughs and I knew he had a sense of humor.
The biggest highlight for guests, I believe, was the talent show. Pre-planned and orchestrated primarily by Jeff, guests could perform whatever talent or game they chose to share with everyone. Mom taught belly dance lessons, and friends led a fabulous game of “His Shoe Her Shoe” – don’t know what that is? Check out our post on reception games!
It was so wonderful to be a part of Sachie and Jeff’s special day. That they were going for intimacy and close family/friends only, yet chose to include me, is a privilege!
