Music is a powerful element. Soliciting emotions through beats, harmony, lyrics, and rhythm, it has quite the influence on the mood of one’s atmosphere and can even reach to affect numerous individuals at once without limitation. This is why music is such a desirable and even crucial piece of weddings. Brides and Grooms may communicate on so many different levels to their guests without saying anything at all and allow the notes and words from a song to dance through the air carrying messages to all who are in attendance.
As coordinators, we hear a LOT of music and can tell you pretty quickly which songs are on top of the charts and what is popular in the industry. For example, as a fun recap of 2014, here is a quick sample of what we heard frequently:
“I Choose You” by Sara Bareilles
This absolutely adorable song reached far and wide with its heartwarming music video. Sure enough, it spread throughout weddings like wildfire pairing oh, so nicely with processionals, recessionals, first dances, cake cutting, you name it! Sara sure strikes some tender nerves with this romantic song and we loved hearing it while watching our own couples love stories reach a new landmark.
“Best Day of My Life” by The American Authors
A popular one to for the Bride and Groom’s first dance or to finish off the night with an upbeat tempo full of positive and elated energy.
“Cupid Shuffle“ by Cupid
Of course! This song was heard at nearly every wedding and was extremely successful at getting everyone on the dance floor, even our lovely wallflowers who would normally rather observe than participate!
Music has a very interesting way of changing as time goes by, and, just like wedding colors and themes go through trends, so does wedding music. What was all the rage last year has begun to fade with new top hits coming in such as “Thinking Out Loud“ by Ed Sheeran, “Shut Up and Dance With Me“ by Walk The Moon and “Uptown Funk” by Mark Ronson.
While music is entirely partial to each couple, as it should be, we would like to dedicate a few upcoming blog posts to what some of our favorite wedding music is, and even have one or two of our preferred DJ’s share their input as well!
Make sure to keep an eye out for our upcoming posts, you may just find a new favorite song 😉
